In a matter of months, for the third straight year, UFC heavyweights Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez will clash with divisional gold up for grabs. This time around Velasquez is champion, as Dos Santos was last December and Velasquez the November before that. In each instance the title exchanged hands and the same will be true this time around, at least if you ask ?Cigano?.
Dos Santos recently spoke to MMAJunkie at a 2013 UFC World Tour stop in Brazil where he offered up some insight into why he is so confident despite having been beaten thoroughly over five rounds the last time the two rumbled.
?In his mind, he knows he gave his all ? he gave everything he had ? and he couldn?t finish the fight,? explained JDS. ?I finished the fight in one minute. I think I have the advantage, and he knows that. But both me and him have to be perfect in our strategy to win this fight.?
The hard-hitting Brazilian has knocked out twelve of the sixteen opponents he?s beaten including Gabriel Gonzaga, Frank Mir, and Fabricio Werdum. That being said, Velasquez is certainly no slouch when it comes to putting opponents away with strikes, securing ten TKOs in twelve victories.
Velasquez vs. Dos Santos III is scheduled for October 19 in Houston at UFC 166.
