Lakes
Lakes are home to many types of bass. The Great Lakes are probably the best-known lakes to fish for bass however bass are found in many lakes. Lake Erie is famous for its great largemouth bass fishing. Bass are found in many natural and manmade lakes. They thrive in lakes that are shallow and fertile. Bass like to be able to hide in weeds, so lakes with weedy shores are great areas for them. Lakes that have many rocks and islands also provide good hiding places for bass.
Bass Fishing Rivers and Connecting Waterways
Bass, particularly smallmouth, can be found in many rivers and connecting waterways such as streams. They prefer moving water and the clarity of the water is important to them. Laremouth bass can be found in areas of the river that are more stagnant and tend to hang around areas that are sheltered. Rivers offer bass the environment and the food source they need to thrive. Weedy shores give protection for spawning. Dams built on waterways also provide ideal conditions for bass. They can often be found near the front face of dams waiting to ambush smaller fish as they are washed down with the current.
Ponds
One of the best attributes of largemouth bass is their ability to thrive in small bodies of water. Many ponds are stocked with bass to allow anglers the ability to have good local fishing. Bass like areas where they can hide, such as weeds. Look for bass throughout the pond and particularly near areas of shore that provide some shade or brush.
Reservoirs
Next to large lakes, reservoirs are the largest water systems that are suitable for bass. Some reservoirs have been stocked with bass and other fish. Reservoirs provide the perfect habitat for bass with shorelines that allow bass to spawn, feed and hide. Reservoirs have many of the smaller fish that bass feed on so they are able to grow. Because they are often not fished as rigorously they may be home to many thriving bass as well as other sunfish.
